RESUMEN

Objetivos: Los tumores carcinoides pulmonares son una patología rara, representan sólo el 1-5% de todas las neoplasias pulmonares, con incidencia estimada de 5-10/1'000,000 de personas/año. El propósito de este estudio es describir la incidencia, las características clínicas, patológicas y los resultados en pacientes con diagnóstico de tumor carcinoide en una sola institución. Material y métodos: Análisis retrospectivo de pacientes con diagnóstico de tumor carcinoide sometidos a resección quirúrgica en el Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Respiratorias (INER) en el período de marzo de 2013 a diciembre de 2019. Se recolectaron datos demográficos, patológicos, clínicos, de tratamiento y seguimiento. Resultados: Se encontraron 30 pacientes con diagnóstico de tumor carcinoide. La media de edad fue de 47.2 años. Los síntomas de presentación más frecuentes fueron disnea progresiva y hemoptisis. El tumor se presentó con predominio en el lado derecho y en el lóbulo inferior. El diagnóstico se hizo de forma preoperatoria a través de biopsia por broncoscopia en la mayoría de los casos. Conclusiones: Los tumores carcinoides pulmonares (TCP) son neoplasias pulmonares relativamente raras que se presentan con síntomas inespecíficos y de larga evolución. Para su tratamiento se requiere de la resección quirúrgica, y siempre que sea factible, con la mayor preservación de tejido pulmonar posible. Esto lleva a un excelente control local y elevada supervivencia a largo plazo.
