This first issue at the beginning of the year allows us to review the free papers presented at the National Congress of our society.
The initiatives of the resident physicians together with their residents allows us to observe the proposals of knowledge in the field of respiratory medicine, which are increasingly interesting and of a higher level. The work in molecular biology, immunology, genetics and epidemiology has been enhanced, which is an important complement to the specialist's training.
It is worth mentioning that many works have been the subject of postgraduate theses in Clinical Medicine, but also in the world of basic areas such as chemists and biologists. The reviewers of all submission applications have an outstanding and high-level academic background for the evaluation.
More and more members of our society belong to the National System of Researchers, which makes us very proud. Currently, having a postgraduate degree in Pneumology or Thoracic Surgery allow us to glimpse a world full of possibilities for research and dissemination of knowledge.
Generally, the great works of technological and medical progress began as a poster or free oral presentation work; as they mature with opinions, recommendations and even constructive criticism, they strengthen the original intention and reinforce the needs of methodological growth.
Our society maintains educational ties with our sister societies, which makes it a valuable tool for the future. Our allied Association American Thoracic Society through the MCER course (Methods in Clinical Respiratory Epidemiology) has trained in its four levels a group of professionals with a scientific vision of their clinical practice.
The different sections of our Society have prepared organized visits to the posters of the different topics of each area, enabling a healthy discussion of ideas and concepts.
The opportunity to present the work at the congress and have it published in our journal brings more exposure to the work in the future, which is also an opportunity for likely future initiatives by new learners.
Interrelation with other specialties has always been a condition of Pneumology due to the underlying pathology of our patients, which is reflected by the coexistence of other diseases in the clinical cases presented. We have more and more participation in this modality, which fills us with satisfaction and projects us to a new interaction between teachers, students and interested colleagues.
The invitation remains open to promote more papers in new congresses and to encourage inter-institutional participation.
I send my fraternal regards.
