Introduction: Meckel’s diverticulitis is an unfrequented disease that must be considered in the differential diagnosis of acute abdominal pain. Material y methods: We present 8 cases of Meckel’s diverticulitis diagnosticated at Hospital Ramón y Cajal (Madrid) between 1985 and 2005. Results: 7 males and 1 female with a mean age of 26.6 years. Seven cases presented as a pain in the right lower quadrant, suspicious of acute appendicitis and one case presented as bowel obstruction. Appendicectomy and diverticulectomy were performed in those cases with preoperative diagnosis of appendicitis, and diverticulectomy and section of adherences in the patient diagnosticated of bowel obstruction. Conclusions: Meckel´s diverticulitis is a rare pathology. Intraoperatively, when the appendix is macroscopically normal, abdominal compartiment must be explored in order to exclude other inflammatory processes like Meckel´s diverticulitis.
