ABSTRACT

Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis defined as disease with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, organisms resistant to at least isoniazid and rifampin is the result of a wrong treatment. There are evidences and controversies in the treatment and outcome in patients with MDR-TB. The papers reviewed in this study show success rate between 33 and 77%. Although the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of treating patients with MDR-TB in resource-constrained countries is well established, outcomes of MDR-TB remain suboptimal because of to the long duration and toxicity.
