ABSTRACT

We present a 68 years old female case with an acute onset of cough and dyspnea associated with peripheral blood eosinophilia, with imaging studies showing posterobasal and apical consolidation of the right lung. The immunofluorescense (IF) of the nasopharyngeal aspirate was positive for an adenovirus and the lung biopsy revealed thickening of the alveolar septa accompanied by eosinophilia infiltration. The clinical course and the histopathological findings suggested an acute eosinophilic pneumonia (AEN).
