ABSTRACT
The degree of lung impairment and the daily living activities has no relation. Frequently, the impact of the COPD therapeutics on the daily living activities can only be seen after a rehabilitation program is instituted. The evaluation of the improvement on the exercise endurance is achieved by constant work rate test or incremental exercise test. Such improvement is significant after the rehabilitation program is started, and can be explained by multiple factors (improved muscle force, improved mechanical efficiency oxidative capacity, breathing pattern adaptation, and reduced dynamic hyperinflation). The COPD exercise-training program consists of 3 – 5, 20 min-duration sessions per week at intensity between 40 – 80% of the oxygen uptake reserve, with a minimum duration of 8 weeks, although there is some controversy about the ideally duration time of the training program.
