Objective, acceptable, reliable in a word, useful, spirometry is one of the paramount diagnostic tool in respiratory diseases. Informatics has contributed to facilitate interpretation, nonetheless, its widespread use is still limited. This article pretends offer the theoretical bases necessary to interpreting, understanding its indications and limits looking forward to facilitate and raise its use. Finally the place for further and more sophisticated complementary tests for early detection and treatment of respiratory diseases is considered.
KEYWORDS
Spirometry, respiratory disease.
