ABSTRACT

Disseminated strongyloidiasis is a problem of endemic zones in many countries throughout tropical regions and temperate regions, affecting immunocompromised patients, and can be life-threatening. We report a case of disseminated strongyloidiasis in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus and treatment with immunosuppressors. She developed acute abdomen and sepsis, secondary to the extension of the Strongyloides stercoralis rhabdiform larvae to the peritoneal cavity with fatal evolution. This is the first case that has been reported in Mexican literature of disseminated strongyloidiasis and the second in the literature by Pubmed, that decribes the larvae peritoneal cavity invasion that presents as an acute abdomen that needed laparotomy.
