Terapia fotodinámica, una nueva modalidad de tratamiento oncológico

RESUMEN
El desarrollo de la terapia fotodinámica (PDT) nos permite aplicar un nuevo método para tratamiento local en cáncer esofágico, pulmonar y otras malignidades en la piel, cabeza y cuello. La terapia fotodinámica incluye un agente fotosensible (photofrin), el cual cuando se expone a una luz de longitud de onda apropiada (láser), da lugar a radicales de oxígeno tóxicos que resultan en muerte celular. Este método es técnicamente fácil de aplicar, con anestesia local o general y disminuye el riesgo de complicaciones.
