Background: Patients undergoing major lung resection are at high risk for pulmonary infections secondary. Methods: Between October 1984 to August 2008, We evaluated retrospectively 163 patients undergoing major lung resection pneumonia was made in the first 5 days postoperatively. Microbial agents were identified and their sensitivity to antibiotics and assess the effectiveness of a prophylaxis regimen. Results: Pneumonia was diagnosed in (38/149). 23,31% in 78.9% (30/38) infection occurred in the first 5 days. The microbiological study was obtained in 57.9% of patients (22/38). Microorganisms were identified in 56 crops. The most common pathogens identified as responsible for the infection were among others, Staphylococcus aureus, (17.9%), Estreptococo pneumoniae (14,3%), Haemophilus spp (16.1%), Enterobacteriaceae (26.9%). Conclusions: The incidence of pneumonia secondary to pulmonary resections in this study have a frequency of 23.31% despite the antibiotic prophylaxis regimens used.
