ABSTRACT
Venous thromboembolic diseases are a group of entities with common pathophysiologic patern. Pulmonary embolism is the pulmonary circulation process of this problem. With broad clinical spectrum, high clinical suspicious is required to detect it. Clinical signs establish the probability to confirm the disease; named pretest probability. Exist different laboratory and image tools to group patients according to the risk and severity. Some studies permit to confirm the disease; its value depends on the patient risk and clinical evaluation. Clinical judgment helped with diagnostic algorithm permit to confirm the disease, to propose treatment options and to estimate its clinical curse. If other venous thromboembolic disease presentation exist, as peripheral venous disease, increments the probability to present pulmonary embolism. Other comorbidities, or clinical signs in special groups represent to clinicians a challenge to confirm the disease.KEYWORDS
