Abstract

Primary cardiac tumors are rare, around 80% are benign and more than half of these cases are cardiac myxomas, up to 75-80% od cardiac myxomas are located in the left atrium. Since the first successful removal of a left atrial myxoma in 1954, median sternotomy with cardiopulmonary bypass has been widely accepted as the standard approach. Recent advances in cardiac minimally invasive approaches have allowed to perform these procedures using a thoracoscopic technique and more recently, using robotic platforms which improve cosmetic results and reduced pain and postsurgical recovery. We present the case of a female patient who was operated in our institution using DaVinci Xi surgical system of a successful robotic resection of left atrial myxoma. As far as we know, this is the first time this kind of procedure is performed in our country.
