Editorial Policies
Neumología y Cirugía de Tórax (NCT) is governed according to the following policies:
Neumología y Cirugía de Tórax (NCT) has a unique name and designation, holds publication licenses (including Creative Commons), is indexed nationally and internationally, has an ISSN for its digital edition, and has a secure website.
Objective
NCT aims to publish original, previously unpublished manuscripts in Spanish or English, including original articles, review articles, clinical cases, special and opinion articles, clinical practice guidelines, and letters to the editor that contribute to knowledge and advancement in the clinical, surgical, epidemiological, basic, and translational aspects of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery from Mexico, Latin America, and other countries. The journal also welcomes manuscripts submitted by authors from other specialties or disciplines related to respiratory medicine.
NCT is addressed to the medical and scientific community and to healthcare professionals.
NCT publishes articles that reflect technical and scientific development, innovations, achievements, and the perspectives of the institutions, hospitals, and countries where the manuscripts originate.
NCT is an open access journal. Manuscript publication does not require payment of article processing charges (APCs); therefore, there is no cost for authors or readers. All articles accepted for publication are translated at no cost. Published articles and their illustrations, as well as copyright, are the exclusive property of NCT and are available under an Open Access model with a CC BY-NC-ND license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/ ).
Scientific manuscripts on medicine, of national and international origin and interest, in Spanish or English, including studies with negative results, that adhere to the international recommendations of good practices will be evaluated.

Good Publication Practice (GPP) Guidelines for Company-Sponsored Biomedical Research: 2022 Update.
The submitted manuscripts will be evaluated according to their methodological quality, originality, timeliness, relevance, scientific contribution, relevance to the objectives of Neumología y Cirugía de Tórax (NCT), and adherence to ethical principles.

All articles received for publication are analyzed using the Strike Plagiarism detection program.
Inclusive and non-sexist language will be promoted. The authors must express their conflicts of interest and they will be responsible for the content of the article.
The publication will be carried out simultaneously in Spanish and English, electronically, in open access, at no cost to authors or readers, and will it be financed by Sociedad Mexicana de Neumología y Cirugía de Tórax and INER Ismael Cosío Villegas. Any external financing will be made through the Sociedad Mexicana de Neumología y Cirugía de Tórax and INER Ismael Cosío Villegas, and will be independent of the editorial process and decision. The editors will evaluate the relevance of the inclusion of advertisers in the publication.
The evaluation process will be carried out in a systematic way, with quality, agility, transparency, consistency, opportunity, and it will include review by academic peers, blinded for both the author and the reviewer (double blind). Reviewers will receive a written acknowledgment for their voluntary participation.
The publishing house will provide an electronic platform for editorial management, and a repository of published articles. The editors and the publishing house will agree on the annual publishing schedule.
Accepted manuscripts will be published ahead of print. Post-publication discussion will take place through Letters to the Editor. The acceptance of the manuscript for its publication implies the automatic transfer of rights for the publication of the article to the NCT.
The Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to submit the manuscript for peer review and to determine its relevance, acceptance, or rejection, in accordance with the consensus of the Editorial Committee and/or Editorial Board. The Editor-in-Chief may also request additional data related to the manuscript to be published, which authors must provide in a timely manner for evaluation.
The authors are responsible for the content of the article, including opinions, criteria, statements, and study results. These do not necessarily reflect the official position or endorsement of NCT.
The journal will regularly implement continuous improvement processes, including training for journal staff and individuals involved in the editorial process.

The editors, editorial board, editorial committee, peer reviewers and operational staff will have defined responsibilities in accordance with the Operation Manual.
The journal will implement continuous improvement processes on a regular basis, including training activities for the people involved in the editorial process.
The dissemination will be carried out through the electronic site of the journal, emails from members of the Sociedad Mexicana de Neumología y Cirugía de Tórax and INER Ismael Cosío Villegas and subscribers to the Toc Alert service and can be carried out through social networks.
Ethical policies:
– All researchers must have complied, in the planning, conduct, and reporting of research involving human subjects, with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki as revised in 2013 (https://www.wma.net/policies-post/wma-declaration-of-helsinki-ethical-principles-for-medical-research-involving-human-subjects/ ).
– All authors must obtain approval to conduct the research from an independent local, regional, or national review body (e.g., an ethics committee or institutional review board).
– When a trademarked product is mentioned, the brand name may be cited only once, followed in parentheses by the generic name or active substance. Subsequent references to the product must use the generic name, active substance, or the salt name (in the case of pharmacological substances).
– When authors or reviewers have any conflict of interest related to the manuscript topic, they must disclose it. In such cases, all materials will be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief and, when applicable, to the Editorial Committee, whose members must have no known conflicts of interest regarding the subject matter. One of these bodies will make the final decision on the acceptance or rejection of the manuscript.
